Discovering the Workplace (GLD 20)
Cooperative Education
Cooperative Education is a career exploration
program that enables students to apply the knowledge and skills learned
in the classroom to
out-of-class experiences through individualized training plans designed
by the teacher and the employer. Students may earn credits toward their
Ontario Secondary School Diploma for this work experience and are evaluated
by the teacher and the employer regularly. An in-school course is closely
related to the co-op placement and must be completed successfully. This
is known as the "in-school" component and the co-op credit(s)
is attached to it. A maximum of 2 co-op credits may be earned for each
in-school related course. These courses may be Academic or Business & Technology
courses.
Discovering the Workplace (GLD 20)
This course provides students with
opportunities to discover and develop the workplace essential skills
and work habits required to be successfully
employed. Students will develop an understanding of work through practical
hands-on experiences in the school and in the community, using real workplace
materials. They investigate occupations of interest through experiential
learning opportunities, such as work-site visits, job shadowing, work
experience, simulations, and entrepreneurial projects. This course helps
students make plans for continued learning and work.
